CFC PNG is a community based not for profit advocacy group launched in November 2008 to address the issue of gender based violence, particularly violence in the home.
It was formed following the presentation of a petition calling for the elimination of violence in the family, by Dame Carol Kidu Minister for Community Development, to the National Parliament on 9 October 2007. The petition was organized by a group of concerned women in response to an horrific act of violence against a pregnant wife by her husband. Public outrage saw 6,500 men and women sign the petition demanding serious government action on the issue of family violence.
CFC PNG sees its role as one of working with three tiers of society, by addressing the issue of violence against women and children, at the political, business and community levels. It seeks to change the attitudes of individuals so that women and children are treated with respect and dignity.
